DESIGN PROBLEM
Locus focused on the collection of spaces and places that define the potential actions of my chosen topic. It is a conceptual and formal investigation into the morphologies of forms and how those physical components communicate ideas through suggested narratives.
Fragmenta focuses on the division and classification of accumulated artifacts. Symbolic components of the environments were identified and deconstructed into informational units that could be used to develop a language of potential narrative formulations becoming a new take on a tarot deck of cards.
DESIGN PROCESS
The project begins with the four spaces: prison, shelter, a dance hall, and afterlife. Souls dwell in various forms through these spaces and the feelings they evoke are entirely unique. Once those spaces are described and the purpose of each space is elucidated, four symbols arise to represent each of the suits of the minor arcana.
These symbols and metaphors are movements representing dance, a biological cell representing prison, a cell membrane representing shelter, and a mirror representing the afterlife.
The concept for the card deck is drawn from the movement created with long exposure photography.
DESIGN SOLUTION
The dance suit is created by putting on the music of the style listed, and the light effect you see is a representation of the the dance movement and style of that dance.
I applied the long exposure photography to the other suits.
For the prison suit with the symbol of a cell, I applied the outside force on the cell and the impact on the cell itself. The shelter suit was tied with the symbol of the membrane that protects the cell. Finally, the afterlife is represented by a mirror.
The memory card shape gives the entire deck a futuristic and new age philosophy aesthetic that envisions how humans may integrate technology and the human soul and already stores memories on microSD cards.
